What is iFightDepression.com?
iFightDepression.com is an information website about depression and its consequences. It aims to help educate people about this illness and suicidal behavior. It contains information about the signs, symptoms and causes of depression, making it easier to recognize depression early and get appropriate help. We also want to give you information on how to deal with and access mental illnesses in a positive way. This includes strategies that you can use to do a lot for your own health as part of self-management. We also provide information about where and how you can get help for depression and how you can support a family member, friend or person in need of help. We also want to provide needs-based resources and recommendations for various professional groups, including doctors and pharmacists. They play an important role in the care of depression and can act as guides or multipliers to ensure that it is recognized early and treated appropriately. They can help those affected to access the care system or help themselves there. The aim of the website is to give them evidence-based information for this purpose.
We also want to contribute to improved care for people with mild to moderate depression. That is why we provide an internet-based, guided self-management program for depression on the website. Click on Self-management resources below to find out more about the iFightDepression® Tool.
Overall, we hope that with this website we can contribute to the prevention of depression, suicidal behavior and the stigma associated with it.
The iFightDepression® website and the iFightDepression® Tool are brands that were created on the initiative of the European Alliance Against Depression (EAAD e.V.). They were developed as part of the PREDI-NU project (Preventing Depression and Improving Awareness through Networking in the EU) carried out within this group and were financially supported by the European Commission as part of the Health program (by CHAFEA, Executive Agency for Consumers, Health and Food).
What is the European Alliance Against Depression (EAAD)?
The European Alliance Against Depression (EAAD) is an international network of experts committed to improving the situation of people suffering from depression and reducing suicide and suicide attempts. The association's goals are to promote health, impart knowledge, improve the diagnosis and treatment of depressive disorders and prevent suicide. These goals are to be achieved through community-based, diverse action programs.
This work is of great importance, especially since it is estimated that 18.4 million Europeans suffer from depression. Depression can affect the quality of life of those affected and their families more than other illnesses and can lead to suicide. It is therefore important to promote the further implementation of effective national and international suicide prevention programs.
More information on the regional implementation of this community-based, multi-level approach can be found on the EAAD website.
